How to Give Your Shoes Proper Care
No matter how much you pay for a pair of shoes, it all goes to waste if you don't give them proper care. Before I learned any of these things, avoiding puddles were the most care I gave my shoes. But I have learned that you have to take more effort into taking care of your shoes because this way, they will last longer.
The first kind of shoes that you will learn how to care for is leather shoes. To accomplish this, you are going to need the following items.
- Gloves
- Newspapers
- Some Old Rags
- Leather Shoe Cleaner
- Leather Conditioner
- Leather Polish
- Leather Protectant
First off, you need to brush off the dirt that has settled on the top of the shoe. Then, use the smooth leather shoe cleaner to completely clean the leather. Some cleaning products also condition but if you want the full treatment for your shoes then, grab you leather conditioner and cover the whole area with a thin coat of conditioner. After a few minutes, wipe the excess conditioner off of the shoe.
Afterwards, get your leather polish and rub it on with a rag and wait for it to dry completely. When the shoe polish is dry, you should buff the shoe with a rag so that it will shine a bit more. Lastly, apply the leather protectant to help prevent weathering and there you go! Your leather shoes have just received the pampering it deserves.
Another kind of material that shoes are made of is suede. Suede, like leather, also needs attention because neglecting a suede shoe will definitely affect its appearance.
In order to do this, you're going to need the following items.
- Suede Protector Spray
- Suede Cleaning Brush
- Nail Brush
- Sponge
- White Tissue Paper
- Pencil Eraser
The first thing you're going to do is to lightly brush the material to get rid of any dirt and grime that have settled on top or that got caught in the nap. Afterwards, use the suede protector spray and apply it to the shoe. In order to rid your shoes of scuff marks, try using the brush in order to get the nap in place. If that didn't work, then try rubbing a pencil eraser against it.
If your shoes have dried mud on it, use your nail brush and rub against the spot where the mud is. If your shoes had some water splashed onto it, which typically will end up drying a different color, then, wet the shoe all over and use a sponge to absorb any excess water. In order to maintain the shape, stuff some tissue paper into the shoe.
For storing suede shoes, wrap them in tissue paper and place it back into the shoe box. So that's about it! Keep doing this from time to time and your suede shoes will last a lot longer.
Caring for your shoes is as important as the outfit you wear with them so, just take the few hours to care for them and you'll be surprised how long they will last.
