Camille Saint-Saens 362 Publishers Note THIS VOLUME is a distillation of five different books on music by Romain Rolland, all of them now out of printand three of them out of circulation for about three decades. It embraces some of the finest writing on music by Holland and y perhaps as an inevitable corollary, it represents some of the best musical writing of our generation. Few writers on music anywhere and in any period brought to their task Hollands seemingly inexhaustible reservoir of culture, Ms im mense musical scholarship., his sensitive understanding of the psychology of genius, his enviable, possibly unique, gift for making past epochs and musical personalities long dead live palpitantly and vividly for us. That such treasurable writing on music should be out of the reach of the average music lover that, indeed, so many music lovers of our day should be un aware of its very existence seemed an insufferable situation crying for remedy. The preparation of this volume for publication brought back to mind the all-too-few occasions upon which I had the oppor tunity to meet and speak to Rolland. The first time was in 1932. Chrysiptera rollandi Rolland's Damsel $6.99 The Rolland's Damsel ( Chrysiptera rollandi ) has a light gray to white body and are darker blue-grey in the head and the front portion of the dorsal area. In mature fish, the head has two bright iridescent blue stripes above the eyes. Damsels and chromis both come from the Pomacentridae family, which they share with Clownfish, a close relative and another very popular group of aquarium fish. Their temperament can range from very peaceful to quite aggressive and territorial. Chromis (fish from the genus Chromis ) tend to be more peaceful than the rest but can also be more delicate. Other common genuses of damsels include Amblyglyphidodon , Chrysiptera , Dascyllus , Neoglyphidodon , Pomacentrus , Stegastes and others. These fish are generally not picky eaters. In the aquarium, they will usually feed on flakes and pellets but should also be given fresh or frozen algaes and meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, planktons, krill, shrimp, scallop and similar items. Damsels can become very territorial as they become established in the aquarium. Some species will defend their territory especially aggressively; use caution when stocking the aquarium since their small sizes can be deceiving; mature or established damsels may pick on smaller or weaker fish or on new arrivals. Some damsels retain the same appearance throughout their entire lives while others undergo a radical color change as they mature from juveniles to adults. A few may get more colorful as adults but most change from very colorful juveniles to bland, more subdued adults.
