The Merrell Chameleon Wrap Slam – Multi sport trainers with hiking boot support
Most people associate Merrell with outdoor performance trainers, cool designs, and shoes constructed for comfort. Ideal as hiking and walking shoes, they are great for casual wear alike. Chunky Vibram rubber treads with performance soles offer excellent grip in the wet, and whilst designed to make light work of off road walking, they are equally at home on concrete and tarmac. All trainers in the Merrell range offer the Merrell Air Cushion system of shock absorption. The air cushioned midsole gives up to 4 times greater shock absorption than standard walking shoes, providing an incredibly cushioned ride. The Merrell fit is highly applauded, however no shoe offers snugger fit than the Merrell Chameleon Wrap Slam.
Designed as an approach and trail shoe, there is no better shoe in the Merrell trainers range for proving a more complete package. Versatile to use as an approach and light hiking shoe, it's a great choice for everyday wear as a casual trainer, for backpacking and all outdoor activities. The air cushion offers remarkable cushioning for walking, even when carrying a heady pack and lace tension is spread around the whole shoe pulling from the base for an incredibly comfortable fit.
The uppers have a highly breathable mesh construction held in place by the strong fabric lace support system, keeping the foot well secured. Sold with an optional Gore-Tex lining, it is totally waterproof and windproof. For dealing with mud, the rand runs the whole perimeter of the shoe offering excellent protection with a rubber toe bumper added for good measure. Under the foot an anatomically moulded footbed feels highly comfortable and supportive, and 4mm Vibram rubber lugs give excellent traction even in the most slippery conditions.
Whilst a great all-purpose shoe, if you are looking to wear it predominantly hard and abrasive surfaces, the soft rubber tread can get worn down easily which will reduce grip in the wet over time, however the shoe remain highly comfortable and will see a good year of heavy use and rough treatment before you would even consider replacing them. For casual and light wear they'll be good for much longer. This is one of the range of vegan Merrell shoes, using no animal products in construction.
If you like wearing trainers, but are looking for the support of a hiking boot then it is a great intermediate, and the cushioning is superb, making it a great shoe if you work on your feet all day. For anyone looking to try out Merrell shoes for the first time, it is a great introduction to the range and for taking on the trail and for long cross country walks it cannot be faulted.
