Octavius of the Britons $79.66 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Octavius or Eudaf Hen is a figure of Welsh tradition. He is remembered as a King of the Britons and the father of Elen Luyddog and Conan Meriadoc in sources such as the Welsh prose tale The Dream of Macsen and Geoffrey of Monmouths Latin chronicle Historia Regum Britanniae. He also figures into Welsh genealogies. Geoffrey of Monmouth introduces Octavius as a halfbrother to Constantine I, who has become King of the Britons following the death of his father Constantius. Eventually Constantine is made Roman Emperor, requiring him to leave Britain in the hands of a proconsul. Octavius, then duke of the Gewissei tribe, rebels against Roman rule, killing the proconsul and proclaiming himself king. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Gaius Octavius $90.81 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Gaius Octavius Rufus (about 100 Bi59 Be was an ancestor to the Roman Emperors of the JulioClaudian dynasty. He was the father of the Emperor Augustus, stepgrandfather of the Emperor Tiberius, greatgreat grandfather of the Emperor Caligula, greatgrandfather of the Emperor Claudius, and greatgreatgreat grandfather of the Emperor Nero. He descended from an old, wealthy equestrian branch of the Octavii family. Despite being from a wealthy family, his family was plebeian, rather than patrician. As a novus homo ( new man ), he was not of a senatorial family. His grandfather, Gaius Octavius, fought as a military tribune in Sicily during the Second Punic War. His father Gaius Octavius was a municipal magistrate who lived to an advanced age. He was distantly related to Gnaeus Octavius, the consul of 87 BC who led the opposition to Lucius Cornelius Cinna. Octavius (Praenomen) $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Octavius is a Latin praenomen, or personal name. It was never particularly common at Rome, but may have been used more frequently in the countryside. The feminine form is Octavia. The name gave rise to the patronymic gens Octavia, and perhaps also to gens Otacilia. A late inscription gives the abbreviation Oct. The praenomen Octavius is best known from Octavius Mamilius, the prince of Tusculum, and soninlaw of Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the seventh and last king of Rome, who was slain by Titus Herminius at the Battle of Lake Regillus about 498 B.C. Members of gens Mamilia afterward came to Rome, and the name must have been used by the ancestors of the Octavii and perhaps the Octacilii, but examples of the praenomen are scarce. It must have been used from on occasion throughout the Roman Republic and well into imperial times. The name was used by gens Maecia, and an Octavia Valeria Vera lived at Ticinum in the second or third century A.D.; and indeed, the name has survived to the present day. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 74 Publication Date: 2010/08/15 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.18 inches |

Octavius (Ship) $100.37 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Octavius was a ghost ship, probably legendary and not actual. The story goes that the vessel was found west of Greenland by the whaler Herald on October 11, 1775. Boarded as a derelict, the boarding party found the entire crew below deck: dead, frozen, and almost perfectly preserved. The captains body was supposedly still at the table in his cabin, pen in hand (exactly as in the Schooner Jenny legend) with the captains log in front of him. In his cabin there was also a dead woman, a dead boy covered with a blanket and a dead sailor with a tinderbox. The boarding party took only the captains log before leaving the vessel, because they were unwilling to search it. The last entry in the log was from 1762, which meant that the ship had been lost in the Arctic for 13 years. As the log was frozen, it slipped from the binding, leaving only the first and the last few pages in. The storys supposed background is that the Octavius had left England for the Orient in 1761, and successfully arrived at its destination the following year.
