Spring Style For Men

Spring is one of those awkward seasons, it's not quite big coat weather, but I wouldn't recommend heading out in shorts and sandals just yet either! This guide should help you to strike that balance between winter dressing and summer style, plus you'll find some handy hints on making your wardrobe last from season to season.

Must have basics for spring

When dressing for spring there is one word that should always come to mind – layering. Layering is ideal as no matter what the season or weather you will be prepared. This means having a highly versatile wardrobe that can be put together many different ways. 

Stock up on neutral pieces that can be worn together, then add a couple of colourful items to liven up your outfit. A good base collection of jeans, trousers, t-shirts, jumpers and cardigans is a must for building a stylish look this spring. Then you can throw together jeans, a white t-shirt and a grey cardigan, then add a bit of colour with a scarf.

Layering also works well when it comes to jackets, an outfit with multiple layers including a jumper or cardigan will not tend to need a thick coat. Perfect for throwing on a Harrington jacket or canvas jacket.

Don't forget if you're too warm you can always shed a layer, or put an extra one on if you're a little on the cool side.

Khaki and combats

The Desert trend is set to be big this season with Khaki and neutral shades being the key. This summer the style will extend into shorts, but for now stick to longer lengths.

Stone coloured combats, khaki t-shirts and stonewash jeans all lend themselves to this trend. Or you could incorporate a subtler reference to the style with desert boots or an earth coloured scarf.

This look is as much about the materials as it is the shades and styles. Pick canvas, linen, denim, leather and suede to sum it up!

English Gent

We're heading back into a smarter era with more and more styles influenced by retro and vintage looks. Over winter tweed and wax jackets were popular. Now we're heading into spring this look takes on a lighter side. Consider a light jacket with a beige jumper, and a shirt underneath for outside of work. Smart shoes are a must (preferably in brown).

Meanwhile the classic suit is a must in the office. There's a reason a suit is our "go to" formal outfit, it works!

If you're a bigger man then layering (and suits for that matter) are on your side. The layers give the illusion of a longer, slimmer torso, which will make you appeal taller. Just make sure you have the fit perfect!
