How To Fit A Leather Corset

Choosing a corset and ensuring a proper fit is extremely important. An ill-fitting one can cause pain and will end up in the back of the closet, unused. A common mistake that is often made is that the buyer doesn't take into consideration that the lacing will bring in the corset itself tighter than they expect. A beautiful leather corset can inspire and attract much attention.

In order to keep the shape from stretching, steel boning is put into long casings in the construction. This is better than the fabric store plastic boning, which was designed for one off special dresses and is not strong enough for a corset. Depending on the style, either a heavy duty zip or a busk with inset hooks and eyes will close the front. A busk is made from steel.

Decent fabric is important to take into consideration. Some fabrics will stretch without proper reinforcement of a second layer. Checking to see if canvas or coutil can prevent a stretchy bodice being bought. Coutil is tightly woven fabric that has been used for years as a proper foundation for corsets. PVC or rubber will stretch by itself, creating a form fitting garment. Leather is strong and versatile, and can be laced tightly to give the typical silhouette.

Measuring properly is terribly important. Keep the tape flat and at the right point on the body. Ones bra size is not the proper measurement for the bust. This should be taken at the fullest part of the breast line. Although more recently, pants and jeans have been worn lower on the hips, this is not where the proper waistline is found. That measurement should be taken at the belly button. Once they have been noted, take a couple of inches off the whole. This will take into account the difference the lacing will make.

A properly fitting corset will not do up entirely before lacing. If it does so, it is too big and will not support the body in the least. There should be at least a four inch gap in the opening once the hooks have been done up at the front and it is time to begin lacing. When lacing, never pull upwards upon the ties themselves, but pull firmly outwards. This will prevent the corset from shifting around the body and becoming uncomfortable to wear.

As the nightclub scene has become more open to different influences, corsets have become quite usual as a fashion item. A result of this is that there are many versions available, ranging in price from quite inexpensive upwards. Ensuring that the correct measurements have been noted, will save money in the long run.

An awe inspiring sight is that of a woman striding through the crowds of a nightclub wearing a perfectly fitted corset. In some of the subcultures of society it can also be a clue as to where that woman is in the hierarchy. In the BDSM world, someone wearing an underbust corset is most often a submissive, since it exposes her vulnerable breasts while one with a higher neckline is normally worn by a Mistress or Dominatrix.

This is not the only place where corsets can be worn. They are excellent accents to many looks. For example, worn over a Victorian style skirt with heavy boots and eccentric, fake, weapons is usually a visual clue that the wearer is a Steampunk follower. Smarter, but not less alluring, is the style where it is worn over a crisp, well ironed blouse and smart skirt. When looking for an all-purpose addition to the wardrobe, one could do much worse than a leather corset.
