There are hundreds of different types shapes and sizes of Mobility Scooters available, please use the information within this article to gain a better understanding of your requirements for a Mobility Scooter that is right for you.
I would always recommend that you go to a Mobility showroom, where you will be assessed before you buy
Always go to buy a with a friend or relative, never on your own
Before buying there are a few questions you need to answer:
Your Health
It is important that you are capable of using and controlling a Mobility Scooter. Your disability and or your health may prevent you from achieving this.
What are you going to use the Scooter for?
Different scooters are suited fo
- Taking in the back of a car - Travel Scooters are easily taken apart to fit into a car boot
- Medium size Mobility Scooters are more suited for trips to your local shops, pub or park.
- For long journeys - Large size Scooters are more suitable
- To use on the road - Only 6 or 8 mile per hour Scooters are allowed on the roads
Size matters!
Both your size and the size of the scooter must be mached
- If you are very tall, long in the leg or have large feet, then a small travel Scooter will not be suitable.
- If you are small or very frail then a large Scooter will not be suitable.
- Your weight is important too, as all Scooters have a maximum user weight specification.
New
Advantages of buying new are:
- You get a warrantee
- The batteries are brand new
- It has been assembled and checked (If bought from a Mobility Showroom)
- You have a point of contact for any queries
Second Hand
There are several disadvantages of buying second hand:
- There is no or very limited warrantee
- The batteries are usually used and therefore may not last long
- The Mobility Scooter may require a service and or repair
- There is not normally any point of contact with professional advice
- Older Mobility Scooters may not have any spare parts available
