Hotel Plein Sud Reviews
The Hotel Plein Sud is in Chantemerle, Serre Chevalier 1350 just a few minutes walk to the main ski lifts of the Serre Chevalier Ski Resort. Here are some Hotel Plein Sud Reviews:
“We booked this hotel at the last minute and were not expecting too much – but we were pleasantly surprised on our arrival. All the Staff were very friendly, as was the rep from Crystals. The room was “basic” according to the hotel but was actually very comfortable with a great shower and “hot-hot” water!
There was also a small heated swimming pool that was excellent for relaxing the sore leg muscles after a hard day’s skiing (by the way Serre-Chevalier has to have some of the best skiing I’ve seen for years – though very much family orientated!) The jewel in the crown of this hotel though had to be the food – I believe this hotel was classed as 2 or 3 star – but the food was better than much of what I’ve eaten in 5 star hotel (apparently the chef is only 23 but is renowned among the village folk – he will go far!!). If/when I go back to Serre-Chevalier you can bet I’ll be heading here again.”

“We stayed at the Plein Sud for half-term. What fabulous time we all had. There were 16 of us in total eldest being 50 and the youngest 11. We didn’t really know what to expect, as we had booked with Neilsons to stay in Villeneuve at the Lodge Cimotel, but this accommodation was cancelled, thank goodness!! Plein Sud was much, much better, we enjoyed a room with a view of the Luc Alphand black run, we had a balcony, big thick fluffy bath robes, a bath, mini bar/fridge, a huge bed and on my husbands 50th Birthday, the resort put a torchlight descent on for us, followed by the best fireworks display we have ever witnessed! The hotel provided us with a delicious chocolate cake too, thanks Lynne.
The ski area is vast, easy to navigate between the villages and all on the one lift pass. As a group, we would have loved a lounge area, but you can’t have everything. A few of us went in the pool and steam room, which was lovely. The owner (Lynne) and her staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly, the food was spot on, with an excellent choice. Breakfast was plentiful, and it was especially good to have eggs available every morning. We arrived quite late, following a long drive with major traffic jams, but there was still a hot jacket spud waiting for us, with charcuterie and salad, just the job before bed. We have all said that we would definitely return to this hotel. It really isn’t a long walk to the slopes either, and you can leave your skis/boots there overnight, but we chose to walk down in walking boots and take ski boots back to hotel later. Check out the Station Bar at the foot of the Alphand, we had a few fun nights in there!”

“We have just arrived back from a skiing trip here, and besides plenty of snow and wall to wall sunshine, the hotel was lovely. Hotel Plein Sud was small and friendly, they have a small bar area, which is cosy, a tad on the expensive side though 3 euro’s for a small glass of wine. There is a comfortable dining room where you will get the most excellent food, there are three choices for starters, two choices of main course, and a selection of deserts and cheeses. The food quality was of a high restaurant standard, the staff in there were very pleasant and efficient. The rooms were a little tired though and could have done with a spot of renovation, but on the whole were comfortable, and quiet, we were lucky enough to have one with a balcony which looked out onto the slopes.
There is also a steam room and a swimming pool, again, a little tired, but were nice and relaxing at the end of a tiring day The only downside was the boot room wasn’t warm enough to dry the wet boots in time for the next day, so I would suggest taking the boots back to your room.
I would recommend both the ski area and the hotel to anyone, looking for lots of wide blue and red slopes, and lovely relaxing place to stay. I’d read some good Hotel Plein Sud Reviews, before I stayed there, so I am happy to add my own.

“Stayed here from 24th to 31st Jan 2010, got a great deal on a Thomson package booking only 4 days before departure. We paid the extra for a room upgrade to have a south facing room with a balcony, these rooms are apparently a bit bigger than standard but I didn’t see the standard to compare.
The hotel was great, exceeded our expectations for a 3 star. The room was fine, quite roomy, we had two generous singles pushed together to make a giant bed. It was always warm enough. The balcony was a nice extra although because we were on the ground floor the view was a bit limited. Bathroom compact but more than adequate and with a BATH – fantastic for a soak after a days skiing and there was always loads of very hot water. There was a fridge/mini-bar which was dead handy for storing our own beer etc.
The swimming pool and steam room were nice to have available, not a huge pool but few hotels seemed to have this facility at all.
The boot room was good, individual lockers and it was heated.
The food was GREAT – breakfast the usual continental fare but the evening meals were really good – very nice food well presented, two choices for starter and main and a buffet for pudding – watch out for what seemed to be a local version of trifle – gorgeous!
The staff were lovely, a mix of english and french, very friendly and helpful.
Some reviewers have referred to hiring lockers near the ski lifts to avoid the uphill walk back to the hotel in ski boots. I don’t know what they are used to but of my 5 ski trips this was one of the closest to the lifts, literally less than 5 minutes walk.
