“Only 6 of the 50 district and appellate judges in Idaho have been elected. The rest received their positions through political appointments.”
Here are a few of the issues facing Idaho courts:
Is Idaho’s judiciary a hostage to our political system?
Our constitution requires the election of judges. Yet early, planned retirements have permitted the political appointment of 44 out of 50 district and appellate judges. We need accountable courts.
Should you have to lose a day’s pay to fight a parking ticket?
Is our judiciary set up to serve its convenience, or yours? Night and weekend courts would make our justice system more accessible and more affordable to every Idahoan.
Why are citizen complaints against judges kept secret?
You have a right to know how our judiciary functions. Are judges whose conduct is open to the pubic more likely to be fair than judges whose actions are shielded from public view? I believe the public’s business should be just that – PUBLIC!
What happened to a fair and speedy trial?
The Idaho school facilities funding lawsuit has lasted 17 years. Many Idaho kids have gone all the way through school in substandard buildings waiting for the courts to act. That’s a travesty. I believe cases should have a beginning and an end with fair and timely court rulings.
Should judges be removed from cases for no reason?
It is true that any party can remove any elected judge from a case without any reason. I think your vote for judges should stand for something. Criminals should not be able to shop for lighter sentences.
